Cobalt titanate blue

Dark green or with a bluish tint. They are solid solutions of cobalt oxides in titanium dioxide, sometimes with the addition of other metal oxides.

This heat-resistant pigment has high light and weather resistance. Its chemical resistance surpasses all other green pigments – it is insoluble in hydrochloric, sulfuric, and nitric acids, as well as in alkalis. It dissolves in aqua regia at elevated temperatures.

The pigment's color depends on the ratio of its components. By replacing nickel with chromium, cobalt, iron, zinc, and their combinations, a whole range of shades can be achieved, from yellow to green, blue, brown, and even gray. They became widespread after 1950; before that, they were used exclusively in ceramics production.

They are produced by calcining a mixture of metatitanic acid and cobalt magnesium carbonate at 1250°C.
