Gabbro curant D80

A chime made of solid Karelian gabbro.

Base diameter: ~80 mm, overall height: 130-150 mm.

Handle diameter: 30 mm.

Each chime is handcrafted from a single piece of rock, resulting in slightly different shapes. However, the working parts of the chimes are preserved as much as possible.

The chime weighs 950-1050 grams. Therefore, it is much easier and more convenient to use than crystal chimes. Moreover, it does not chip, which we have repeatedly observed with larger crystal chimes.

The chime is made from the best Karelian gabbro on the planet, as it contains the lowest amount of harmful inclusions, such as iron sulfide and others, which degrade the physical and chemical properties of the rock.

Gabbro (Italian: gabbro) is a mafic plutonic rock of normal alkalinity belonging to the gabbroic family. The main minerals of gabbro are mafic (anorthite-rich) plagioclase and monoclinic pyroxene; olivine, rhombic pyroxene, hornblende, and quartz are also occasionally present.

The kurant is sold without glass. Glass is purchased separately.

History

The rock's formation is estimated to be approximately two billion years old.

A naturally occurring rock, Karelian gabbro boasts exceptional strength and durability, making it popular as a finishing material for metro station and building exteriors, decorative panels and interior details, and garden and park design. Gabbro is a highly wear-resistant stone; it is unaffected by temperature fluctuations, frost-resistant, chemically resistant, and light-fast, as is the case with our pigment made from this rock.

After polishing, the natural shine and noble iridescence of gabbro suggest that the stone is not only original but also long-lasting.

In terms of its technological properties, gabbro is a rock similar to basalt (an effusive analogue of gabbro). Its sanitary and hygienic properties allow it to be used in construction, and thanks to its excellent thermal conductivity, it is successfully used in saunas and bathhouses. Therefore, gabbro can confidently be called a completely non-radioactive rock, suitable for interior finishing.

Being a virtually unique rock in its physical properties, gabbro, unlike granite, is mined from only three deposits. Major gabbro quarries are Karelia (the deposit is located on the southern shore of Lake Onega), the Urals, and the Kola Peninsula. Gabbro is also mined in Australia and Ukraine.

With low moisture absorption, gabbro is unaffected by moisture, and the porosity of the stone means it absorbs even less moisture than granite. Gabbro has a very high density, making it a very durable rock. Its low abrasion resistance means gabbro will retain its magnificent appearance and stability for centuries.

Gabbro has a high tensile strength and can withstand even heavier loads than granite.
