Sunflower oil refined clarified 100 ml

Sunflower oil, refined, bleached, clarified for diluting oil paints.

The oil is bleached in the sun for a year from early March to late October.

Sunflower oil is extracted from sunflower seeds. Professor F. Petrushevsky was the first to point out sunflower oil as a material suitable for painting.

Crude sunflower oil, cold-pressed, has a light yellow color that more or less easily disappears in the light and when heated. Its chemical composition has not yet been studied much. Farion classifies sunflower oil as a semi-drying oil. This oil is of great interest to Russian painters, since it is extracted mainly in the USSR, and in large quantities, and is inexpensive. Recently, however, it has also attracted interest in the West, where its suitability for painting is also being tested.

Sunflower oil contains 46% linoleic acids, 39% oleic acid, and 9% solid fatty acids. These data on the composition of oil are apparently close to the truth, as they are confirmed by the slow drying of sunflower oil. But until there is firmly established data, further research into the composition of sunflower oil is necessary. Mixing paints with sunflower oil has yielded unconditionally satisfactory results.

A layer of sunflower oil does not wrinkle when drying even if it is quite thick; the oil dries in a thin layer in the form of cobalt drying oil in about 12 hours. When resins and essential oils are added to it, it produces a normal layer of painting; in addition, it can serve as a binder for paints in combination with linseed oil, which mitigates the negative aspects of linseed oil.

Paints ground on one raw condensed sunflower oil dry very slowly, especially zinc white, which complicates multi-layer painting on it and does not guarantee durability. To fully understand the different types of fatty drying oils, it is necessary to say a few more words about the following oils. In painting, only refined and bleached oil is used.
