Grinding 50-70 microns.

Golden-yellow ochre contains hydrated iron oxide, goethite. In this compound, iron reacts freely with water.

Ocher purified from clay (kaolin). Ocher contains goethite-limonite, quartz, and mica.

The yellow and red ochre pigment was used in prehistoric and ancient times by many different civilizations on different continents. Archaeologists date evidence of ochre processing to a lesser extent in Africa and Europe to 300,000 years ago, evidence of ochre use in Australia dates back 50,000 years, and new research has discovered evidence in Asia dating back 40,000 years.

Pieces of ochre engraved with abstract designs were found at the Blombos Cave site in South Africa, dating back approximately 75,000 years. In Wales, a Paleolithic burial site, nicknamed the "Red Lady of Paviland" because of its red ochre coating, dates back to approximately 33,000 years BP. Animal images made with red and yellow ochre pigments have been found at the Paleolithic sites of Pech-Merle in France (c. 25,000 years old) and in the Altamira Cave in Spain (c. 16,500-15,000 BC). The Lascaux Cave contains an image of a horse painted with yellow ochre, estimated to be 17,300 years old.
