Nickel titanate green

Light green or lime green. They are solid solutions of nickel oxides in titanium dioxide, sometimes with the addition of other metal oxides.

This heat-resistant pigment has high light and weather resistance. Its chemical resistance surpasses all other yellow pigments – it is insoluble in hydrochloric, sulfuric, and nitric acids, as well as alkalis. It dissolves in aqua regia at elevated temperatures.

Despite its high hiding power, it has a relatively low tinting strength (five times lower than that of yellow lead crown). The pigment's color depends on the ratio of its components. By replacing nickel with chromium, cobalt, iron, zinc, and their combinations, a whole range of shades can be achieved, ranging from yellow to green, blue, brown, and even gray. They became widespread after 1950; before that, they were used exclusively in ceramics.

They are produced by calcining a mixture of metatitanic acid and nickel zinc carbonate at 1250°C.
