The peculiarity of the pigment is the difficulty in setting the color, a rarity in watercolor.
The composition of watercolor uses finely ground pigments and highly purified gum arabic. A high degree of grinding on a ceramic paint grinder gives transparent, pure and saturated colors. Watercolor mixes perfectly, is easily washed.
Pigment ("strontium yellow" or "yellow ultramarine") for ceramics, porcelain, paints. Strontium chromate (VI) is a strontium salt of chromic acid, which has the chemical formula SrCrO4. Strontium yellow is stable, but changes color when mixed with Naples yellow, lead white, cobalt blue and ultramarine.
Discovered at the end of the 19th century. The color is lemon yellow, pure. It has low chemical resistance, is completely decomposed by acids and alkalis, and is slightly soluble in water (0.8 g / l).

The lightfastness of strontian yellow is higher than that of other yellow crowns of lead, zinc and barite, but it turns strongly green in the light.

Painted separately (without mixing with other paints), strontian yellow in a few days even in diffused light becomes greenish, and then dirty green, especially in those samples where the pigment is freshly prepared and insufficiently washed from nitrate salts and, possibly, absorbed bichromate.

Strontian yellow is not entirely stable and changes color when mixed with Naples yellow, lead white, cobalt blue and ultramarine.

The pigment, calcined at a temperature not exceeding 400 ° C, becomes more transparent and brighter, the green tint disappears in it and the oil absorption decreases.

The hiding power depends on the conditions of pigment production.

Since strontium yellow tends to turn green when drying, it should not be mixed with golden yellow "ZH", cadmium lemon, yellow light, medium and orange, as the resulting paint will be dirty green.

Strontium crown is obtained by the interaction of strontium nitrate or chloride with potassium or sodium chromate at a temperature of 80 - 90 ° C.

It is used in acrylic and water-based primers for light metals, as it does not interact with carboxyl and hydroxyl-containing film formers. It is used in oil artistic paints.
